La Guilde is pleased to present, in partnership with the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec and the Ville de Montréal, the exhibition of the Prix François-Houdé 2023 finalists and the solo exhibition by glass artist David Frigon-Lavoie, last year’s recipient.

This award, offered by the Ville de Montréal, recognizes artists at the beginning of their careers. It highlights the remarkable quality of their creations and their original contributions to craft practices. It also promotes the excellence of Montreal's creative talent in the community and promotes the work of these emerging artists. The Prix François-Houdé recognizes the mastery of exploratory techniques specific to each artist's discipline, and highlights the transformation of wood, leather, textiles, metals, glass, ceramics, paper, and other materials.
The award is named in recognition of artist François Houdé (1950-1993), who was an internationally renowned glass sculptor and co-founder of Espace VERRE (formerly Centre des métiers du verre du Québec).
Every year, in parallel with the finalists' works, La Guilde holds a solo exhibition of the last year's recipient.
DAVID FRIGON LAVOIE, Prix François-Houdé 2022 recipient
In the exhibition Côté passager, David Frigon-Lavoie draws on glassmaking traditions while adding a modern twist to some classic forms, combining past and present in reinterpreted panoramas. IHe presents a series of blown glass pieces, using different colouring and engraving techniques to create contemporary decorative objects.
