Qavavau Manumie

    Born in Brandon (MB) and now based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), Qavavau Manumie is a successful printmaking and drawing artist. He started drawing as a teenager and began working in printmaking at the Kinngait Studios (previously West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative) in the 1980s. His contemporary prints are often humorous and whimsical, inspired by nature and the artist's vivid imagination. Since 1990, his work has been included in most Cape Dorset Annual Print Collections, besides being widely exhibited and part of numerous museums such as the Canadian Museum of History (Gatineau, QC), the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa, ON), and the Ackland Art Museum (North Carolina, USA).
