Based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), carver Qavavau Ashoona was exposed to cultural expression and traditional stories from a young age. Not unlike his grandmother, the renowned graphic artist Pitseolak Ashoona, he quickly established himself as a talented carver working with elegant forms and fluid lines. He has a preference for local serpentine stone and is known for his graceful bear carvings. His work demonstrates a keen sense of proportion and attention to detail when reproducing wildlife.
