Michael Arvitut is an Inuk artist from Arviat (NU) who specializes in sculpture. Born into a family of artists, he learned to carve at the age of thirteen by watching his grandmother. His work is easily recognizable by the beaded necklaces worn by his stone figures. His sculptures usually depict shamans, hunters, spirits, or whales. His work can be found in many galleries across Canada.
