Based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), Mathewsie Oshutsiaq grew up in a family of artists and sculptors. His mother and sister, Omalluk and Mary Oshutsiaq, are well-known for their sculptures of people and portraits of mothers with children. Influenced by their stylistic approach, Mathewsie Oshutsiaq carves serpentine into birds, owls and bears with fluidity and meticulousness. The Inukshuks he creates combine modern forms and lines with a more traditional style.
