Mary Pudlat (1923-2001) was a printmaker, storyteller, and graphic artist born near Puvirnituq (Povungnituk, QC) and artistically established in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU). Mary Pudlat experimented with various media and techniques such as etching, printmaking, lithography, and stone cutting. Her subject matters were often whimsical, and she depicted domestic scenes of camp life. Her line work was detailed and intricate, accentuated by thicker lines and areas of darker colour. Texture and realism were given to her works by gradients in the ink colour. Her work is in several major artistic institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY) and the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa, ON).
