Lypa Pitsiulak (1943-2010) was an Inuk artist from Pangnirtung (NU) who specialized in drawing. He began by tracing images in frosted windows but started to practice more seriously when encouraged by Gary Magee—an officer with the Department of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs of Canada who helped establish an Arts and Crafts program within the Pangnirtung Inuit Cooperative in the 1960s. Lypa Pitsiulak drew inspiration from his ancestors and ancient traditions for his drawings. His work can be found in many galleries and museums across the country such as the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa, ON).
