Born in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), Kooyoo Peter is an Inuk artist with remarkable imagination and technical skills. He learned to carve by watching his late brother, Joanasie Peter, and started his artistic career as a carver at 18. He also studied jewellery making and is a certified carpenter. Kooyoo Peter’s favourite carving subjects are people in action and animals in movement, such as dancing bears. His work has been exhibited in galleries across Canada, the United States, Germany, and Switzerland since the 1980s.
