Living and working near Toronto (ON), Katja van den Enden is an experimental artist whose practice focuses on the combination of clay with other materials such as metal, fibres, and organic matter. After working with mixed media painting and collage for over two decades, the German-born artist turned to sculpture, using clay as an extension of her hands. She explores our mind's connectivity and functioning, beyond verbal communication, such as loss of attention, scattered thoughts, broken systems, and our mind's fragility. Since starting her artistic career in 2001, she received multiple grants and awards, notably from the Ontario Art Council (2016/2017/2018/2020), and participated in an artist residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point (2018) in Toronto (ON).
