Born in Iqaluit (NU), Kakee Peter Ningeosiaq moved to Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU) in 1993. Growing up in a family of artists, he started carving at 16 and learned by watching his father, Ningeosiak Peter, and his mother, Parnee Peter, both talented sculptors. Skillfully using the grain from the serpentine stones to highlight the dynamic shapes of his sculptures, Kakee Peter Ningeosiaq's favourite subjects to carve are whales and birds in motion. The artist depicts animals in a uniquely playful way by often having pods of whales and fish dancing together, as they do in nature. His work was exhibited throughout Canada and is included in many galleries.
