Born in Happy Valley-Goose Bay (NL), John Terriak is an influential artist based in Nain (NL). As a carver, John Terriak works mainly with soapstone, marble, whalebone, antler, and ivory, but has also experimented with drawing, gold and silver jewellery making, ceramics, and other mediums. In addition to his work as an artist, he has been instrumental in promoting and advocating for Nunatsiavut art and artists, including serving as a board member and later president of the Inuit Art Foundation. John Terriak’s works have been exhibited internationally and are held in private and public collections, including those of the Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa, ON) and the Labrador Inuit Development Corporation (Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL).
