Born in Fort Simpson (NT), award-winning Dene artist John Sabourin is now based in Kingston (ON), where he pursues his artistic practice in addition to sharing his knowledge by teaching workshops. After graduating from the Victoria College of Art (BC) in 1999, he began his career as a full-time painter and sculptor. Through his work, the artist explores the complex relationship between humans and nature and brings the stone to life by depicting stories and legends of the Dene culture. He completed commissions and murals for various public institutions, including a granite sculpture for the French Federation in Yellowknife (NT) and participated in several exhibitions across Canada, the United States, and Australia.
