Born in 1986 in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), Joanie Ragee began carving inukshuks at the age of twelve. He comes from a family of established artists and learned to carve by observing his older brother, Siutapik Ragee, his grandfather, Inuk Munamie, and his father, Nowdlak Noah. He has since developed an affinity for carving animals, particularly polar bears, which he carves realistically with a good sense of mass and movement.
