She began weaving at the age of seven before taking sewing courses at the Labrador Friendship Centre and hosting many workshops in basketry. She sometimes uses dyes from natural berries and plants to accent her work, which is delicate, subtle, and sewn to the highest standards. Garmel Rich has contributed to elevating traditional Inuit weaving crafts to a level of artistry that is quite unmatched. Her work has been included in several festivals and exhibited across Canada, including at The Rooms, a public cultural space in St. John's (NL).
