    Known for her unyielding look at contemporary life in the North, Annie Pootoogook (1969-2016) was a celebrated graphic artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU). She started drawing in 1997 after watching her mother, Napachie Pootoogook, and her grandmother, Pitseolak Ashoona, work. Her work rapidly gained national and international recognition. Annie Pootoogook work includes a white range of subject matter, from men's undergarments and domestic scenes to spiritual self-portraits. In 2006, she received the Sobey Art Award and had a major show at The Power Plant (Toronto, ON).
