From March 14 to April 2, 2023, the works of textile artist Chung-Im Kim are presented for the first time at La Guilde, in our window exhibition. Chung-Im Kim finds her inspiration in the intricate patterns offered by nature. Through compound forms, she reflects on geometry, mathematics, and symmetrical structures. Her textile works explore dimensions and architecture, and how flat surfaces can come to life in a new three-dimensional creation. Her installations seek to shake up orderly and tidy beauty, in order to be able to create a new result and new energies.
About the artist
Chung-Im Kim began her career in the textile industry as a pattern designer, while running a studio in Seoul and teaching in middle school. Since arriving in Canada in 1990, she has been a resident of the Harbourfront Center Textile Studio and has worked in the design industry for over fifteen years as a freelance designer. Recently retired as an associate professor in the Fibre Department of OCAD University, she focuses on her creative projects.
