May 5 to September 3, 2016
Je suis mémoire, je suis avenir, by Catherine Lessard, offered a rather contemporary vision of this finger-weaving technique. This self-taught artist has learnt various forms of fine crafts: artistic crochet needlework, quilt-making, weaving of the arrowhead sash, etc. Her creative approach respects the traditional techniques employed in the production of this unique Quebec craft. Through her bold and modern creations, she aims to refresh this traditional finger-weaving technique. During the exhibition, visitors were able to admire eight large sized creations, in the form of an installation. From May 5 to June 4, 2016, La Guilde invited its public to discover this weaving technique, which had just been designated as an element of Quebec’s intangible heritage by the ministère de la Culture et des Communications.
