As part of the Beading Now!, exhibition, La Guilde is pleased to welcome the artist Nico Williams for a beading workshop. The participants who will partake in this performance will have the chance to create a beaded swatch while discussing current socio-political issues with the artist, that are sometimes controversial, such as residential schools, police brutality, etc. They will also learn about the incarcerated indigenous community in Canada.
The artist Nico Williams, of Ojibway origin (Aamjiwnaang First Nation), has a BFA in print media and is pursuing an MFA in sculpture at Concordia University. He has participated in several exhibitions in Canada and in Chile, including Territories: Kent Monkman, Nadia Myre and Nico Williams, presented as part of the 2017 Art Souterrain festival in Montreal. He is also a board member for the Contemporary Native Art Biennial and is actively involved in the urban Indigenous Montreal network.
