Since 1996, the City of Montreal, in collaboration with the Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec and La Guilde, has organized the Prix François-Houdé. The award promotes the excellence of innovative Montreal creations in fine crafts, and encourages the promotion of works by young craftspeople.

This award is aimed at craftspeople in the early stages of their careers. It highlights the remarkable craftsmanship of their creations and their original contribution to the practice of an art craft, related to the transformation of wood, leather, textiles, metals, glass, ceramics, paper or any other material, while recognizing their mastery of exploratory techniques specific to their discipline.

François Houdé (1950-1993), an internationally renowned glass sculptor, pioneered the use of new techniques for integrating glass. He made a major contribution to the development of his community as one of the co-founders of the Centre des métiers du verre du Québec, from which many up-and-coming artisans have emerged.

La Guilde, the City of Montreal, and the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec are proud to present the works of the 2024 François-Houdé Award finalists from January 30 to March 15, 2025. This exhibition showcases the richness and diversity of contemporary fine crafts in Montreal, celebrating the talent, creativity, and exceptional craftsmanship of emerging artists.
