To celebrate Nunavut Day, La Guilde invites you to attend the screening of three documentary films by artist Ruben Anton Komangapik, which will be presented in Montreal for the first time. Come learn more about seal and narwhal hunting with the artist who will introduce each of his documentaries and perform a drum dance at the end of the evening. Ruben Anton Komangapik will also display three of his beautiful sculptures in our windows to mark the event.
Ruben Anton Komangapik
Multi-disciplinary artist Ruben Anton Komangapik, from Iqaluit (Nunavut), specializes in the art of jewelry, sculpture and documentary film. A graduate of the Nunavut Arctic College in the Jewellery / Metalwork Program, he combines his experience as a sculptor with his knowledge of jewellery to create contemporary artworks, many of which are part of the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, of the York Lions Stadium in Toronto and of the Canada Council for the Arts. Ruben Anton Komangapik also attended several courses at York University in Film Production. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals, has contributed to the creation of a music band and has given several Inuktitut singing performances alongside artists such as Tanya Tagaq.
