Based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), Sita Saila began carving in 1964, influenced by her father, Manumie Shaqu, and her late husband, Mikisiti Saila, both prominent artists. Her detailed and expressive carvings are very accomplished and demonstrate intimate knowledge of traditional Inuit culture and life on the land. In 2015, she expanded her artistic practice and took on drawing, stone-cut printing, etching, and aquatinting. Her work has been presented in several prominent exhibitions across Canada and the United States, in addition to being held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (MB).
