Born in 1976 Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet, NU), Ruben Anton Komangapik is a jeweller, sculptor, carver, metalworker, performing artist and musician who now resides in Quebec. He completed the jewellery and metalwork program at the Nunavut Arctic College in 1995. Although influenced by traditional stories, songs, and legends told by his grandfather, Komangapik has a contemporary sensibility and often combines the more typical materials with precious metals and gemstones, melding traditional imagery with modern style in a unique way. Komangapik's works are held in permanent collections across Europe and Canada, including that of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
