Based in Iqaluit (NU), Mathew Nuqingaq works primarily in jewellery design and performs as a drum dancer. His trajectory into silversmithing began in 1999 when he completed the Jewellery and Metalwork program at the Nunavut Arctic College. His talent in metalwork and his desire to represent Inuit culture and traditions through his work result in unique wearable pieces of art. Dedicated to creating opportunities for members of his community and fellow artists, he founded Aayuraa Studio (Iqaluit, NU) in 2007, where he works alongside both emerging and established artists. Mathew Nuqingaq has been in several prominent exhibitions across Canada and was awarded the Member of the Order of Canada in 2016.
