Born in Puvirnituq (Nunavik, QC), sculptor Markoosie Papigatok was raised in a family of renowned carvers. He learned to use both hand and power tools by observing those around him, notably his grandfather, Qavaroak Tunnillie (1928-1993). Now based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), he is known for making small playful sculptures, most commonly dancing bears. His work was exhibited throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States and is part of public collections, including those of the Musee d’art Inuit Brousseau (Quebec City, QC) and the Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa, ON).
