Manasie Akpaliapik is an Inuit sculptor from Arctic Bay (NU). Considered one of the most gifted artists of his generation, his works mainly evoke shamanic legends through transformations between man and beast. He is also one of the few artists to explore some more current and controversial themes, such as drug and alcohol abuse in Inuit communities. Manasie Akpaliapik learned to carve at a very young age by observing his grandparents. His preffered materials are whalebone, caribou antler, and walrus or narwhal ivory. The Musée National des Beaux-Arts de Québec has an exhibition dedicated to his art (2021-2023).
