HOTELMOTEL was born out of a shared desire to preserve Montreal's footwear know-how ethically and sustainably. Niki Jessup and Corinne Bourget met during master's classes in shoemaking at the Centre des Métiers du Cuir de Montréal. After doing internships in France and Australia, Corinne Bourget worked in production houses and has a degree in leather goods, as does Niki Jessup who also holds a Masters in Footwear Design from the London College of Fashion. Each with complementary strengths and great mutual respect, the idea of collaborating and creating a local manufacturing company was born. The practice of both artists is both traditional and innovative. By exploring various materials, with all the challenges they bring, and collaborating with artists from different mediums while using their footwear manufacturing techniques, HOTELMOTEL questions the function, form, and aesthetics of the sneaker.
