In his exhibition Animism Today, Koomuatuk Sapa Curley evokes the Inuit belief that every being and every thing holds a spirit through which all are connected. As he works the stone, he rekindles memories of the land and of the moments spent at his grandparents’ camp, letting the presence of the wind, the sun, and the animals encountered along the way resonate through his work. With gestures rooted in tradition and supported by modern techniques, he seeks to reveal the vital force that animates the world. His works express a deep connection between human and nature, between memory and matter.
