Hot Matter

September 28 to November 25, 2017

Hot Matter was a collective exhibition highlighting the work of contemporary Canadian glass artists, whether renowned or emerging and promising:

Marie-Hélène Beaulieu
Annie Cantin
Maryse Chartrand
Brad Copping
Sébastien Duchange
Montserrat Duran Muntadas
Susan Edgerley
Carole Frève
Ito Laïla Le François
Caroline Ouellette
Patrick Primeau
Donald Robertson
Tyler Rock
Jean-Simon Trottier

The exhibition was held in La Guilde’s new location in Montreal, from September 28 to November 25, 2017. The project was co-curated by Elena Lee, an authority in the promotion of artistic glassmaking and associate director of Elena Lee Gallery, a pioneer in contemporary Canadian glass artwork and also the first gallery to represent the Studio Glass movement in Canada.

Above and beyond each artist’s exceptional skill and creative process, this more than necessary exhibition underlined the artists’ work which goes far beyond the usual functionality of the object. It established a picture of the emerging practices in artistic glassmaking and fostered a form of liberation from traditional glass making by allowing room for artists who prefer to use mixed media.
