Under the guidance of artists Meky Ottawa and Nico Williams, come to La Guilde to contribute to a collective artwork during the Journées de la culture. During this workshop, you will be invited to ornate a painting with colorful beads. This painting will have been created during a first workshop taking place in La Guilde on the previous Saturday. Do not hesitate to subscribe to both activities to follow the whole creative process related to this collective artwork. Thus, you will be learning to paint and to bead, all this in one weekend!
Meky Ottawa
Multidisciplinary artist from Manawan, Meky Ottawa and Nico Williams creates installations, films and prints. In 2018, she painted the mural Hommage à Alanis Obomsawin located in the Ville-Marie district, a project entrusted to her by MU. She also participated in ELLES Autochtones at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. In 2016, the NFB selected her to take part in the creative laboratory in media arts Déranger, alongside artists Eruoma Awashish and Caroline Monnet. At the Gala Prends-ça court! à Montréal, in Montreal, she won the INIS Special Mention and the Prix Vidéographe in 2013. She also received the Prix Jeunesse at the Festival Ciné Alter’Natif in Nantes (France).
Nico Williams
Of Ojibway origin (Aamjiwnaang First Nation), Nico Williams has a BFA in print media and is pursuing an MFA in sculpture at Concordia University. He has participated in several exhibitions in Canada and in Chile, includingTerritories: Kent Monkman, Nadia Myre, Nico Williams, presented as part of the 2017 Art Souterrain festival in Montreal. He is also a board member for the Contemporary Native Art Biennial and is actively involved in the urban Indigenous Montreal network.
