Thursday, March 26 from 5:30 to 8 PM
La Guilde invites you to a double opening for the exhibitions Jiibay Spirit and For the Love of Lace: Crafting Identities. Artist Janice Toulouse and curator Alexandra Ruby Chafe will be present to celebrate the opening of their exhibitions. This is a public event and all are welcome.
Through Jiibay Spirit, Janice Toulouse presents a series of paintings grounded in her deep relationship to the spirit world and Anishinaabe teachings. For the artist, creation is both an expressionist gesture and a slow symbolic process, shaped by memory, meditation, and an ongoing connection to the land.
Through painting, Toulouse invites the public into a space of encounter and dialogue, where individual and collective histories continue to circulate.
For the Love of Lace: Crafting Identities
The exhibition in the Permanent Collection For the Love of Lace: Crafting Identities explores the social, economic and colonial implications of craft, and how lace was used to express and construct makers’ identities in the context of a changing Canada. Curated by lacemaker and art and craft historian Alexandra Ruby Chafe, this exhibition will highlight lace pieces and archives from The Guilde’s permanent collection and loans from private collections, including Cirque du Soleil.
Both exhibitions run until May 9, 2026
No reservation is necessary for this event. We look forward to seeing you there!
