Born in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU), artist Palaya (Padlaya) Qiatsuq began carving at the age of twelve, learning from his father. Through his work, which often depicts stories of transformation and shamanism, Palaya Qiatsuq wishes to keep Inuit culture and traditional stories alive and pass this knowledge on to younger generations. In 2006, he was invited to demonstrate carving at the Canada House in London (England). His work has been exhibited across Canada, Europe, and the United States, in addition to being part of public collections, including the Amway Environmental Foundation's Collection in Ada (MI, USA).
