Born in Iqaluit (NU), Napachie Ashoona is an acclaimed artist based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset, NU). He is a member of one of the most prominent families of Inuit artists. His carvings, made with local serpentine, show the artist's remarkable ability to capture kinetic movements of his human, animal, and spiritual subjects. His sculptures are known for their expressiveness, fluidity, and the fine details he carves from the softer stone—a skill best conveyed in the faces of his human subjects. Napachie Ashoona has received significant praise for his work, and his carvings have been in exhibitions across Canada, the United States, Germany, and France.
