Founded in 1906, La Guilde is a non-profit organization that preserves and promotes Inuit, First Nations and Metis art, and Fine Crafts from Canada and increases awareness of all of these artistic practices. In addition to its permanent exhibition—which presents objects from its collection—La Guilde has a dynamic programming of temporary exhibitions and cultural activities, educational programs, and archives of great historical significance. La Guilde is also an art gallery with works by established and emerging artists, available for acquisition.
DESCRIPTION
The Gallery Assistant, under the Gallery Director, will be responsible for assisting with tasks related to welcoming visitors and selling works to various clienteles. The Assitant will also be asked to promote awareness of La Guilde's mission, exhibitions, and permanent collection, as well as indigenous cultures and crafts, in order to share knowledge and foster exchanges.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet visitors, answer their questions and inform them of La Guilde's mission and activities;
- Participate in the sale of artworks (i.e. customer service, packaging, delivery, billing);
- Participate in the management of the inventory (taking photos, identification, printings labels,, cataloguing, etc);
- Follow-up with artists and various suppliers;
- Provide research support toward the development of the gallery’s private and corporate collector community;
- Be knowledgeable of exhibition content, the history of the organization, and relevant information about the artists, their creative process, techniques, and materials used;
- Participate in the installation of works in the gallery and window displays;
- Keep the database and website up-to-date (artworks, clients, visitors, artists, partners, etc.);
- Perform any other related tasks.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- University degree in art history, visual arts, museum studies, marketing, or a discipline relevant to the role and La Guilde's mission;
- Experience in customer service and/or the sale of artworks and knowledge of the art market (an asset);
- Excellent knowledge of French and good knowledge of English;
- Proficiency of the Office suite, PC and MAC environment and be comfortable with technology in general;
- Knowledge of Salesforce and Shopify (an asset);
- Interest in developing knowledge of indigenous art, fine crafts, and Canadian art (an asset);
- Versatility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.

Be organized and work independently, at ease developing lasting business relationships with artists, suppliers, and customers.
CONDITIONS
- Start date: October 3 or as soon as possible;
- Full time position, 35hrs/week;
- Schedule : Tuesday to Saturday (may require occasional evening and weekend flexibility);
- 2 weeks' holiday starting in the first year;
- 28 hours sick or personal leave per year;

- Salary: $20/h, depending on experience.
