Uriash Puqiqnak is a world-renowned basalt stone carver known for his expressive characters. He contributed to the now iconic style of Gjoa Haven (NU) — his hometown for which he has served as mayor. Born into a family of artists and politically engaged, Uriash Puqiqnak has contributed to the improvement of programs promoting handmade Inuit art. He has also been instrumental in developing ways to prevent counterfeit sculptures from entering the art market. He received the Order of Canada (2015) and his works are now exhibited across Canada.
